Eknath Shinde brings Metro Car Shed project back to Mumbai's Aarey colony reversing Thackeray's order
Mumbai/IBNS: Maharashtra's new Chief Minister Eknath Shinde brought back the controversial Metro Car Shed project back to Mumbai's Aarey colony reversing his predecessor Udddhav Thackeray's decision, media reports said.
In his first cabinet meeting, as sources said, Shinde brought the project back to Aarey colony, reestablishing the decision taken by Thackeray's immediate predecessor Devendra Fadnavis, who is now the Deputy Chief Minister.
The project drew protests from the environmentalists when the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation sought the civic body's permission to chop trees in the colony.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or BMC had given permission for the same.
Then Chief Minister Fadnavis had argued the land sought for the project was not categorised for biodiversity or forestland.
After becoming the Chief Minister, Thackeray reversed Fadnavis' decision and shifted the project to Kanjurmarg.
The project got stuck after the BJP-led central government moved the Bombay High Court in 2020 claiming the land sought as an alternative to the Aarey colony belongs to its Salt Department.
