ED conducts raids at Sanjay Raut's home after he skips summons twice

Mumbai/IBNS: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Sunday conducted a search and questioning at Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut's house in Mumbai after he skipped summons twice in connection with a money-laundering case.

The Shiv Sena leader was summoned by the probe agency on July 27 after he skipped an earlier summon citing the ongoing Parliament session in Delhi.

The ED team was accompanied by CRPF officials as they visited Raut's home in Bandup in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai this morning.

The probe agency wants to question Raut in connection with the re-development of a chawl (urban slum) in Mumbai and related transactions involving his wife and close associates.

The Sena leader has denied all charges and alleged that he is being targeted due to political vendetta.

This morning, Raut again reiterated that he has "nothing to do with any scam". "...False action, false evidence...I will not leave Shiv Sena...Even if I die, I will not surrender...I have nothing to do with any scam. I am saying this by taking the oath of Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray. Balasaheb taught us to fight. I will continue to fight for Shiv Sena," Raut tweeted.

Hitting back for skipping summons, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ram Kadam said: "Why is he scared of Enforcement Directorate if he is innocent? He has all the time to give press conference but no time to visit probe agency office for questioning."

In April, the ED had attached his family's properties in the case worth over Rs. 11.15 crore.
