ECI denies permission for BJP's theme song composed by Babul Supriyo

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) Election Commission on Saturday asked the BJP not to use the campaign song, which was composed by its Asansol MP Babul Supriyo, saying it was played at several places without prior permission.

The Trinamool Congress objected to the song, alleging that its content maligns the party and that it was played without the poll body’s permission.

The song, 'Ei Trinamool ar na' means 'this Trinamool no more', has been written by Amit Chakraborty, and composed and sung by Supriyo.

An FIR was also registered against the Asansol MP for alleged derogatory remarks against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress in the song.

“The song was being used by BJP in various parts of Bengal without permission. The song will have to be withdrawn”, said West Bengal Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Basu.

According to Commission sources, the BJP has played the theme song in various platforms including social media before submitting it to the poll body for permission.

The Commission had issued a showcause notice to Mr Suprio for releasing the song without permission.

The BJP had submitted the song and its lyrics before the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee, however, the state Chief Electoral Officer asked them to submit a revised version.

“The BJP did not submit the revised version and hence there is no permission for the song”, Commission officials said.
