Durga Puja pandals to remain visitors-free: Calcutta HC on review petition; slight modifications introduced

| @indiablooms | Oct 21, 2020, at 06:21 pm

Kolkata/IBNS: The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday refused to change its earlier order which barred the visitors from entering the Durga Puja pandals this year in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, though brought a few modifications to its earlier ruling.

The high court, which was hearing a review petition filed by the umbrella organisation of the puja committees, said 60 and 15 people, who should happen to be the puja organisers, can be listed to enter into the big and small pandals respectively.

However, only 45 of 60 and 10 of 15 people can be present at the big and small pandals together, ruled the court.

Earlier the court had said maximum 25 people can be present inside the puja pandals.

In another relaxation for the puja organisers, the Calcutta HC said the list of people allowed in the pandals can be changed everyday.

No other occasion including "Sindur Khela" has been allowed this year in the puja pandals. However, Dhakis (traditional drummers) have been allowed in the pandals.

The high court had earlier declared all puja pandals no entry zones for the visitors.

The area five metres and 10 metres away from small and big puja pandals respectively will be barricaded.
