Drunk police officer suspended, sent to prison

Bhagalpur, Jun 25 (UNI) The officer-in-charge of Khareek police station under Naugachhia sub division in the district was suspended and remanded to jail today after he was found guilty of consuming liquor in violation of new excise and prohibition act in Bihar.

Naugachhia police superintendent Nidhi Rani said here that she had gone to the police station last night on the receipt of information that the officer-in-charge Dileep Kumar was in the habit of consuming liquor every day. She said that the police officer was found consuming liquor inside the police premises itself. The drunk police officer was taken into custody immediately and a medical test was conducted later.

Nidhi said that an FIR was booked under new excise and prohibition act and he was sent to jail.

In view of seriousness of the offence, the police officer was put under suspension with immediate effect and direction had been issued for initiating departmental proceedings against him.
