Drunk filmmaker Siddhant Das rams car into Kolkata market, one killed, several injured

Kolkata/IBNS: One person was killed and eight others were critically injured after filmmaker Siddhant Das in a drunk state rammed his car into a market at Thakurpukur in Kolkata on Sunday, media reports said.

Das, 35, lost control of his car while driving from Bakrahat towards Gariahat and rammed into people.

Aminur Rahman, who was selling vegetables in the market, suffered multiple injuries.

Rahman, 63, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital where he was rushed to.

The incident occurred at around 9 am.

Police said Das was drunk when the accident took place and four liquor bottles were found in the vehicle.

The locals dragged Das out of the car, thrashed him till police rescued him from the scene.

A woman who was travelling with Das was arrested. Another woman, who was in the backseat, managed to flee before police could nab her.

Eye-witnesses said the car rammed into two-wheelers and injured several pedestrians who were into their daily activities at the market.

The car stopped after hitting a parked scooter.
