Devotees at Banke Bihari temple drink AC water thinking it to be 'Charan Amrit'

A video has gone viral on social media where devotees could be seen drinking water discharged from an air conditioning unit in Mathura's revered Banke Bihari Mandir thinking it to be 'Charan Amrit' (the sacred water from the feet of Hindu deity Lord Krishna).

People were seen using cups or folding their hands to drink water coming out from an elephant-shaped structure in the temple.

The viral video garnered 4 million views on X.

The video garnered a wide range of reactions with internet users slamming them for the act.

Medical expert 'The Liver Doc' issued a press health warning and said: "Cooling and air conditioning systems are breeding grounds for many types of infections including fungus, some really hellish."

"Exposure to air conditioning condensed water can lead to a terrifying disease known as Legionnaires' disease, spread by a species of bacteria called Legionella," the expert said.

The medical expert said people get infected by inhaling infected water droplets or aspirating small amounts of contaminated water into the lungs.

Legionella infection can be self-limiting and non-troublesome, called Pontiac Fever or can be severe, leading to death with development of pneumonia.

"Religion is the worst dangerous invention of humankind," the post said.
