Delhi violence: Death toll touches 47
New Delhi/IBNS: The death toll due to the violence, which rocked normal life in Delhi in recent times over the new citizenship law passed by the Union government last year, has touched 47.
As per reports available on Monday, 38 deaths have been reported from Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, 3 at Lok Nayak Hospital, 1 at Jag Parvesh Chander Hospital, and 5 at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
Delhi Police on Sunday evening cleared the air regarding tensions in west Delhi saying that all such reports were rumours and asked everyone to stay calm.
"A rumor has been noticed that there is some tension in Khyala-Raghubir Nagar area of West District. There is no truth behind it.
All are requested to keep calm as the situation is absolutely normal & peaceful", the police said in a statement.
Senior police officers of the concerned districts including Dwarka and others reached the ground and said that it found nothing on ground.
All metro stations were functional and running smoothly. No any damage or disturbance is reported, the police said.
''All these are rumours, nothing found at ground level. Please don't pay attention to the rumours," the DCP of Dwarka said.
Two groups were gambling in Khayala area and when the police reached they started running and screamed "Danga ho gaya, Danga." (riots have taken place)
Meanwhile, due to the rumour mongering, shopkeepers closed their shops early in adjoining the West district.
Police personnel reached out to the people and clarified the doubts.
