Delhi violence: AAP's Tahir Hussain booked over charges of murder, suspended by party

New Delhi/IBNS: A case has been filed against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s Tahir Hussain in connection with the alleged murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) official Ankit Sharma during the ongoing Delhi violence.

He also faces charges related to spreading of violence and arson in parts of north east Delhi.

An FIR has been registered under section 302 IPC (Murder) at Dayalpur police station and name of AAP Councillor Md. Tahir Hussain has been mentioned in the 'Details' section of the FIR, soruces told IBNS.

The AAP has suspended Hussain from the primary membership of the party.

Hussain will remain suspended until the charges against him are cleared.

Earlier on Wednesday, kins of Ankit Sharma, whose body was reportedly found in a drain in Chand Bagh, alleged that the 26-year-old IB officer was kidnapped and murdered by Tahir Hussain and his followers while he was returning home from office.

Md. Tahir Hussain, an AAP councilor from Ward no. 59 (Nehru Vihar) of East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), has been accused of inciting his community's people during the communal violence over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest and leading an attack from his house's rooftop.

Officials said than multiple locations belonging to Tahir Hussain had been raided earlier in afternoon and his house and factory have been sealed. A raid is on to detain Tahir.

The AAP councilor, however, denied all allegations against him and claimed his house as well as rooftop were 'hijacked' by rioters.

"I was forced out of my home and my rooftop was taken over by miscreants who pelted stones and petrol bombs," Hussain told IBNS.

"I wasn't involve in the violence and I had called the police after miscreants entered my house, but, police arrived after several hours," he added. "All these allegations against me are false."

Multiple video clips, authenticity of which have not been examined by IBNS independently, have gone viral on social media platforms which show a man resembling to Tahir Hussain leading an attack from a house's rooftop during the Delhi violence.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the Delhi violence has climbed up to 38 with one more death reported on Thursday evening.

Senior officials of Delhi Police have announced to constitute two Special Investigation Teams (SITs) to probe the deadly communal violence that roiled North East parts of Delhi since Sunday.

The violence was preceded by a clash between the supporters and protestors of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), which aims to grant citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi but not Muslim refugees who came to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan due to religious persecution before 2015.
