Delhi govt extends free electricity subsidy till 31 March next year

New Delhi/UNI: The Delhi government Thursday decided to extend the subsidy on electricity until March 31st next year, paving the way for 24-hour free electricity in the national capital.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, while informing about the decision made in the cabinet meeting Thursday, said, "I congratulate the people of Delhi. The availability of 24-hour electricity (zero power cuts) and free electricity has been extended until March 31, 2025. This includes free electricity for lawyers' chambers as well."

"Many people had doubts about whether they would receive the electricity subsidy next year or not. Let me tell you, these people made every effort to stop it. But your son has also gotten this work done.

I want to inform you that 24-hour electricity and free electricity are only available in Delhi and Punjab. In the rest of the country, there are long power cuts, and people have to pay thousands of rupees in electricity bills. Because Delhi has a government of honest and educated people,” he said.

Under the chairmanship of Arvind Kejriwal, a cabinet meeting was held on Thursday to discuss continuing the free electricity scheme in Delhi.

A proposal was put forward to extend the scheme until March 31, 2025, which was unanimously approved by the cabinet.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s Energy Minister Atishi said, “Providing 24-hour electricity and free electricity in Delhi is not just a promise of the Arvind Kejriwal government but a commitment that they have consistently fulfilled over the past nine years.”

She said that there is no policy of the Kejriwal government that their opponents do not try to obstruct.

"Every year, whenever Arvind Kejriwal attempts to work for the people of Delhi and make decisions in their favour, our opponents make every possible effort to block them," she added.
