New Delhi/UNI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Anil Chaudhary was on Sunday placed under preventive detention at his residence.

The police reached Chaudhary's residence in East Delhi and placed him under preventive detention, which was later confirmed through a video posted by the leader on social media.

He took migrant labourers to the Delhi-UP border along with him on Saturday and Sunday, during which social distancing norms, in place to contain coronavirus, were not maintained, police said.

In the video, the infuriated leader said Congress was trying to help migrant workers, who are unable to meet their needs in this hour of crisis.

'We were providing the workers with essentials who were scrambling for food. I really fail to understand why we are being stopped. Really unfortunate,' he said.

Chaudhary had told UNI Varta that the New Ashok Nagar SHO had arrived at his residence this morning and informed him about the detention.
