Delhi Assembly polls: Congress manifesto to reflect public opinion, says Tharoor

New Delhi/UNI: Taking a dig at the BJP government, the Congress on Friday alleged that at a time when voices of people are being muzzled and dissent being suppressed, the time is to listen to the voice of people to forge a dialogue.

Speaking at the party's local unit event here, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that with the coming Delhi Assembly polls, the grand old party before finalising its manifesto, would first hear the opinion of the people.

"We will be soon releasing our manifesto that will be our message to everyone, however, before that we want the people's message to get to us," Tharoor said.

In his opinion, the siphoning of dissent, attacks on the university campuses in Delhi and all what has been happening all around has given the Congress a sense that it was time to listen to the voices of the people first and foremost.

He said that he would visit Jamia Millia University soon to interact with the students, and while replying to another question, he blamed the Central Government for bringing the Citizenship Amendment Act as a deliberate attempt to divert people’s attention from pressing issues like economic distress and unemployment.

DPCC chief Subhash Chopra and Tharoor asserted that the Congress will continue to oppose NRC, but will never support the slogans to divide the country.

They said that the grand old party will continue to oppose the Government’s move to snatch people’s democratic right to protest.

While launching Delhi Congress's 'Dilli Ke Dil Ki Baat---- Congress Ke Saath' campaign, Tharoor attacked AAP and BJP governments with the catch line “Jhaadu Ka Jhansa, Kamal Ne Phansa.”

Along with Chopra and Delhi Mahila Congress chief Sharmishtha Mukherjee, he launched the “Samvad’ on “Dilli Ke Dil Ki Baat—Congress Ke Saath” campaign and said that people will be given six platforms to communicate with the Delhi Pradesh Congress to give their suggestions through twitter, mail and Facebook.

Tharoor and Chopra said the Congress will incorporate the suggestions of the common people in its manifesto as “we believe that the time has come to consult the people for their direct participation.'

They said that the Congress party has decided to have elaborate interaction with people ranging from women, youth, students, street vendors, small and medium shopkeepers and traders, e-rickshaw and auto drivers, to elicit their views.
