New Delhi/IBNS: 54.65% of the total people of Delhi cast their votes as the Delhi assembly elections 2020 were held on Saturday.

The voter turnout, which was pretty low for the entire day, picked up towards the evening making it to close to 55 per cent.

While the AAP concentrated on the issues of water, electricity, health, the BJP followed the nationalistic agendas mostly in the poll campaigns.

Elaborate security arrangements were made to maintain law and order situation in the national capital.

Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel held flag marches in the sensitive areas in northeast and east Delhi, officials were reported as saying.

Patrolling in motorcycles was also conducted by senior officials, Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range) Alok Kumar said.

Senior cops covered sensitive areas in West Delhi afoot.

Taking the blessings from his parents, Kejriwal went out to vote in the morning.

Kejriwal's opponent and Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari urged the voters to cast their after exercising his own right.

Congress interim leader Sonia Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra went to the polling booths together to cast their votes. Priyanka's son Rehan cast his vote for the first time in his life.

After casting her vote, Priyanka told media, "I certainly hope that the people of Delhi will vote for development and progress and for the issues that matter most to them.

I hope they won't be distracted by the issues which basically don't pertain to their development and to the advancement of the state (though Delhi is a Union Territory)."

When she was asked about a weak poll campaign of the Congress, she said, "No I think we have put in a good effort..."

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was one of the top politicians who had voted in the morning.

Among the veterans, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and BJP leader LK Advani were spotted casting their votes. Singh cast his votes at Nirman Bhawan.

President Ram Nath Kovind along with his wife Savita Kovind cast his vote at the polling station in the Dr Rajendra Prasad Kendriya Vidyalaya, within the Rashtrapati Bhavan complex in the morning.

Former cricketer and BJP MP Gautam Gambhir cast his vote along with his family.

Among the Bollywood celebrities, actress Taapsee Pannu, Swara Bhasker were spotted exercising their rights.

Pannu on Saturday cast her vote for the Delhi Assembly elections 2020 along with her family, and said that every vote counts.

"Done my deed #Delhi #DelhiElections2020 How about you??? P.S. RW Twitter - here’s another ‘ungli’ photo to help you get by this year!" Bhasker tweeted.
