New Delhi/UNI: As protests continue in several parts of the country on the third day against the Centre’s Agnipath scheme, Indian Railways cancelled or partially terminated a number of trains.

As per sources, around 200 train services have been affected and around 35 trains have been cancelled.

Eastern Railways' CPRO Ekalabya Chakraborty on Friday said eight trains including Duronto Express were affected due to ongoing agitation.

Moreover, Bhagalpur-Danapur Intercity Express (13401) and Jamalpur-Kiul DEMU Passenger Special (03487) have been short terminated at Dhanauri.

Railways Board spokesperson Amitabh Sharma said 116 train services have been affected in 24 places in Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. He said the 37 trains have been cancelled.

Violent protests have erupted in several states including UP, Bihar, Haryana and Telangana.

The army aspirants protesting against the scheme targeted railway stations and set on fire some trains in Bihar and Telangana.

In Bihar, agitating students torched six compartments of a train at Moihuddin Nagar in Samastipur and two coaches of another train at Lakhisarai station. The aspirants also blocked railway traffic at Bihiya station near Ara and Lakhisarai.

The protesting students also staged peaceful agitations at Muzaffarpur carrying national flags.

Due to the protest at Secunderabad Railway Station in Telangana, the South Central Railway (SCR) on Friday cancelled/partially cancelled and partially diverted nine trains.

As the agitation is spreading across many states, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw appealed to the youth to not indulge in violence. He also urged the students not to damage the railway's property.
