Delhi, adjoining area to get rains
New Delhi/UNI: After rainfall last night, Delhi got some respite from the scorching heat, with the Meteorological Department saying that temperature in the city on Saturday is likely to settle around 39 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature on Saturday morning was 29.8 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal, whereas the relative humidity recorded was 37 per cent.
Delhi and its adjoining areas could get gusty winds, light rainfall and thunderstorms on Saturday, the IMD said.
The wet spell is induced by a western disturbance affecting northwest India. In addition to cloudy skies and rainfall in Delhi from May 22 to 24, rainfall and thunderstorms have been forecast for the western Himalayan region over the next five days.
There will be no heat wave in the next five days in the national capital as the maximum temperature could range between 38 and 41 degrees Celsius, the IMD said.
After a severe spell of a heatwave on Friday, the national capital received rainfall in parts of the city accompanied with thunderstorms and gusty winds, which brought some respite to the people of Delhi in the evening.
Eleven flights were diverted due to bad weather on Friday. One of them was of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who was flying back to Delhi after attending a function at the Shree Swaminarayan Temple at Vadodara in Gujarat.
The maximum temperature on Friday settled at around 44.4 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal, while the minimum was at 28.2, two degrees above normal.
