Defence Minister to perform Shastra Puja in France after receiving the first Rafale fighter jet

Paris: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will receive the first of the 36 Rafale fighter jets for the Air Force on Tuesday on the occasion of Air Force Day and Dussehra at the Merignac air base near Bordeaux in France.

The delivery of the long-awaited delivery of the fighter jets will give an edge to India’s air defence capability over Pakistan and China in India.

The Defence Minister will perform Shastra Pooja, after receiving the fighter jet on the occasion of Dussehra in Bordeaux and then take a sortie in the aircraft, Defence Ministry officials said.

Before going to Bordeaux, Singh will meet French President Emmanuel Macron where the two countries will discuss a wide range of issues.

Singh will also meet French President Emmanuel Macron before going to Bordeaux where he will hold bilateral talks to deepen the ties between India and France.

"Bonjour Paris! Delighted to be in France. This great nation is India’s important strategic partner and our special relationship goes far beyond the realm of formal ties.My visit to France is aimed at expanding the existing strategic partnership between both the countries,"he wrote on his Twitter handle.

Though the Rafale air jets will be officially inducted after Defence Minister receives them in Bordeaux, the aircrafts will be delivered not before May 2020 after the training of pilots and personnel is completed.
