Cyber Safety and National Security event held in Guwahati

Guwahati: CID Assam has organized a One Day event on “Cyber Safety and National Security : Cyber Apradh Se Azadi – Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” on Thursday at Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati. 

This event has been organized to generate an awareness amongst the public on Cyber Safety and Cyber Hygiene norms and to prevent cyber crimes.  Guwahati, Assam is one of the seven locations in the country which is organizing such one day events.  CID Assam in organizing this event in collaboration with Ministry of Home Affairs, Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, New Delhi and Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. 

As part of this day-long event, Quiz and Poster Making competition for School / College students, Audio Visual presentation on Azadi Ke Amrit Mahotsav have been organized. 

The National School of Drama has designed a Street Play to propagate Cyber Safety and Cyber Hygiene message. 

The Sangeet Natak Academy has composed a song on Cyber Safety and Cyber Hygiene.  Both the play and song were played during the event. 

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. John Jose, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, IIT, Guwahati. 

He has given various tips to the school and college students on Cyber Safety and Cyber Hygiene.  An Audio Visual presentation on the cyber safety initiatives of Assam Police was also displayed. 

A comprehensive handbook for Investigating Officers of Cyber Crime Cases compiled by CID, Assam containing various tips to the Investigating Officers was released on the occasion.
The main event conducted in Guwahati will be followed by ten other events at ten different districts of Assam in the next one week. 

CID Assam has designed and distributed Cyber Safety leaflets and tips to prevent Cyber Crime in both Assamese and English language. 

Several informative posters and hoardings have also been designed to generate awareness amongst the public.
Various stakeholders namely students from colleges and universities, Principals and Head of institutions, senior Police Officers, senior Administrative Officers, officials from Social Welfare Department, Education Department and I.T. department have graced the occasion. 

In his Welcome Address A.Y.V. Krishna, IPS, Addl. DGP, CID spoke about the steps taken by Assam Police to tackle the cyber crimes like training programmes organized, Regional Cyber Crime Co-ordination Workshop, Seminar on use of Darknet and Crypto Currency for Drug Law Enforcement agencies, trainings organized for Investigating Officers in co-ordination with C-DAC, procurement and distribution of First Responder Kits and about the plans to set up Cyber Crime Police Stations. 

Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, IPS, Director General of police who inaugurated the event in his address spoke about the population of netizens in India and the recent initiatives being taken by Assam Police in tackling Cyber Crimes. 

He called upon the youth and the public to be aware of cyber crime criminals and to follow the cyber safety norms. 

Various officers from North-Eastern States who are handling cyber crimes and officers from MHA have also attended the programme.
