New Delhi/IBNS: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said the deaths due to the Novel Coronavirus pandemic were declining, urging people in the national capital not to panic over the surge in infections.

Kejriwal during a press briefing said, "The treatment for 15,000 of 25,000 active cases is underway at home. The fatality rate has also declined. We (Delhi government) had started the plasma bank first in the country. Investigations have revealed that plasma therapy can be effective in treating Covid patients."

"Delhi has crossed the 1-lakh mark in terms of Covid cases. But there is no need to panic as 72,000 of 1 lakh have recovered," said the CM.

India has surpassed Russia to become the third worst Covid-affected country in the world, according to Johns Hopkins University & Medicine, by adding over 24,000 cases in 24 hours between Sunday and Monday mornings.

India is now behind the United States (28,88,635) and Brazil (16,03,055).

India, the country of 1.3 billion, on Monday reported 24,248 fresh Novel Coronavirus cases taking the overall tally of infections to 6,97,413.

With 425 new fatalities, the Covid toll touched 19,693.

4,24,433 of 6,97,413 have recovered so far from the contagion.
