COVID-19: Bengal asks Centre to stop domestic flights from worst-hit states, requests resumption of Kolkata Metro for essential staff
Kolkata/IBNS: At a time when India, as well as West Bengal, have been witnessing a sharp surge in Covid-19 cases, Bengal Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha on Tuesday wrote to the Union Civil Aviation Secretary, P. S. Kharola, requesting him to stop domestic flights to West Bengal from five worst-hit states, including Delhi, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
In the letter to the Union Civil Aviation Secretary, West Bengal Chief Secretary asked not to schedule any domestic flight from eight airports, including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Chennai, Indore, Ahmedabad and Surat, to Kolkata or Bagdogra airports in Bengal for two weeks from July 6.
State Chief Secretary also requested to restrict the number of flights to Bengal from other Indian airports to a frequency of once a week for each airline from July 6 till the end of the month (July 31).
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary of West Bengal, Rajiva Sinha, wrote another letter to Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, asking him to grant the necessary permission to Kolkata Metro rail that it could resume its operation for people in essential services, maintaining all precautionary measures, proper sanitization and physical distancing norms.
