Cop killed in Kashmir militant attack

Srinagar, July 26 (IBNS) A policeman was killed and four other personnel were injured when heavily armed militants opened heavy fire upon them at Sopore in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, some 55 km from summer capital Srinagar.

According to sources, the incident took place during the intervening night when people were observing Lailatul Qadar when the Special Operation Group (SOG) of police Sopore  chased stone pelters near Jamia Masjid.

Sources said that In the meantime, the militants opened indiscriminate fire upon the SOG team resulting in the death of a Jammu and Kashmir policeman Mohammad Sayed of Milyal Kupwara. Four others were injured.

Soon after the incident army, police and CRPF cordoned off the whole area and launched searches in the town.

Suspected militants Friday evening  shot dead a policeman in Bijbehara town of  south Kashmir.
