Congress parliamentary party to meet on June 1
New Delhi, May 29 (UNI): The Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) will meet on June 1 to elect the new leader of the party in the Lok Sabha, sources said.
To be chaired by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, the meeting of the Congress Parliamentary party, to be held in the Central hall of Parliament, will be attended by newly-elected MPs of the party in the Lok Sabha and the party MPs in Rajya Sabha.
The meeting, which is also likely to be addressed by Congress President Rahul Gandhi, is also expected to elect the new leader of the party in the Lok Sabha.
This will be the first meeting of the CPP after the results of the Lok Sabha elections, which saw the BJP sweep to power with a landslide win, securing 303 seats in the 543 member house while the Congress won just 52 seats.
The meeting comes a week after Rahul offered to resign from post of Congress president over the poor show by the party in the elections.
