Congress leader held for blackmailing BVA corporator

Palghar, May 31 (UNI) A Congress leader of the district has been booked on charges of allegedly blackmailing the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) corporator of the Vasai Virar Muncipal Corporation (VVMC) and extorting money from him, police said on Friday.

Arun Jadhav said in a complaint that the alleged accused Kumar Harishchandra Kakade had been black mailing him from time to time by filing applications under the RTI with the VVMC.

He has been threatening since 2016 that he would put a spike in his construction activities and complain in the courts. To hush up the matter,he had demanded of Rs 50 lakhs.

Meanwhile, Kakade has collected Rs 30 lakhs on two different occasions in 2016, the complaint stated.

Jadhav was arrested by the Vasai police a couple of days back on the alleged charges of carrying out illegal construction and land grabbing.
