Congress is no more what it used to be in the past: Jyotiraditya Scindia

New Delhi/IBNS: Starting a new journey in his political career, Jyotiraditya Scindia joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday and attacked his previous political outfit Congress and said it is no more the same as it used to be in the past.

Referring to two major platforms in his life, the politician said: "There are two life-changing moments in my life- One was the moment I lost my father and the other one was yesterday when I decided to choose a new path for my life."

Scindia said his aim has always been to serve people and politics is only a means to fulfil that.

Scindia, who was a part of the Congress party for the past 18 years, said: " I was hurt and distressed as I was unable to serve the people in my previous organization."

"Today's Congress party is not the same as it used to be in the past," he said attacking the grand old party of the country in his first press conference since joining the BJP.

Giving a blow to Congress, Scindia, who was the confidante of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, resigned from the outfit on Tuesday amid differences with the party's top brass.

He was inducted to the BJP in presence of party's national president Jagat Prakash Nadda.

In his resignation letter to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, Scindia said he was not able to work for people remaining in the party.

In the resignation letter, Scindia wrote, "Having been a primary member of the Congress party for last 18 years, it is now time for me to move on. I am tendering my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress and as you well know, this is a path that has been drawing itself out over the last year."

"While my aim and purpose remain the same as it has always been from the very beginning, to serve the people of my state and country, I believe I am unable to do this anymore within this party.

To reflect and realise the aspirations of my people and my workers I believe it is best that I now look ahead at a fresh start."

22 Congress MLAs of Madhya Pradesh, who are loyal to Scindia, have also submitted their resignations to Governor Lalji Tandon.

If the resignations are accepted, the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh will fall.
