'Congratulations to my good friend': Modi’s heartwarming wish for newly married Aussie PM Anthony Albanese

New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese on his wedding to financial services professional and women's advocate Jodie Haydon, calling the Australian leader “a good friend”.

“Congratulations to my good friend, PM Anthony Albanese and Ms. Jodie Haydon on their wedding. Wishing them a happy married life,” Modi posted on X, sharing his wishes for the newly married couple.

Albanese, 62, tied the knot in a private ceremony in Canberra, becoming the first sitting Australian Prime Minister to marry while in office.

“We are absolutely delighted to share our love and commitment to spending our future lives together, in front of our family and closest friends,” Albanese said in a statement quoted by the BBC.

Images shared by Albanese on social media showed glimpses from the ceremony, including a post captioned “Married” and another heartfelt message to Haydon saying, “I love you, Jodie.”

The event was kept confidential due to security concerns, but reports suggest that Albanese’s dog, Toto, served as the ring bearer. Close family members attended the ceremony, including Haydon’s parents and Albanese’s son from his previous marriage.

According to BBC reports, the newlyweds will honeymoon in Australia next week, though their plans have been kept modest following Albanese’s re-election in May.

Albanese and Haydon first met during a business dinner in Melbourne in 2020. Since then, Haydon has been a visible presence alongside him during the 2022 and 2025 election campaigns.
