Sultanpur/UNI: A complaint has been registered against former Union Minister and Sultanpur seat MP Maneka Gandhi over her controversial statement in the District Additional Sessions Judge MP, MLA court on Saturday.

In his petition, Sultanpur district advocate and journalist Rajesh Mishra has said that the MP had given a statement at the District and Monitoring Committee

meeting on August 10 that the city should be made free from complete lockdown and the common man should not be forced to wear masks.

In the meeting, Ms Gandhi had also said that during the unloading of vehicles of the traders in the night, journalists click their pictures and blackmail the traders, he averred.

District Magistrate C Indumati, Superintendent of Police Shiv Hari Meena and several other officials and mediapersons were also present during the meeting.

Making this statement of Maneka Gandhi as base, Mr Rajesh Mishra has filed a petition under defamation and other sections in the Additional Sessions Judge MP, MLA court which has been accepted.

Mr Mishra claimed that Maneka Gandhi has insulted journalists by calling them blackmailers. The comment has hurt journalists in the district by this public statement.
