Cloudbursts in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh: Search operation on, states brace for more rain

Shimla/IBNS: The search for the survivors after cloudbursts in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, are still underway while the two states are bracing for more rain, media reports said.

NDRF, SDRF, ITBP and Army personnel have been deployed for the rescue operation.

Over a dozen people have died in the cloudbursts in the two hill states since Thursday.

In Uttarakhand, 13 bodies have been discovered.

An orange alert (for heavy rain) has been issued in the Uttar Kashi district of Uttarakhand while a yellow alert (for moderate rain) in 12 other districts of the hill state.

The Amarnath Yatra has been suspended for at least three days. Over 400 people have been rescued from the route, where about 1,300 pilgrims were stranded due to the cloudbursts.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas on Friday.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has been holding high-level meetings to tackle the situation in his state.
