Close confidant of Smriti Irani shot dead in Amethi

Amethi, May 26 (UNI): A close confidant of Union Minister Smriti Irani was shot dead here under Jamo police station area late on Saturday night.

Police sources said here on Sunday that former Pradhan of Baraulia village was shot dead at his residence by motorcycle-borne criminals.

The former Pradhan Surendra Singh was rushed to the Trauma centre in Lucknow. He was declared brought dead.

Surendra had actively campaigned for Irani in the Lol Sabha polls in which she defeated Congress president Rahul Gandhi by over 55,000 votes.

The Baraulia village was adopted by former defence minister late Manohar Parikar on the initiative of Irani.

Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt to nab the culprits.
