CISF personnel posted in Kolkata based Garden Reach Shipbuilders succumbs to COVID-19

Kolkata/IBNS: An Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) posted in its GRSEL unit here has succumbed to COVID-19.

The ASI had history of diabetes and hypertension and died on May 11, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSEL) said a statement

"The Shipyard stands in solidarity at this hour with the bereaved family," the statement said.

"All CISF personnel who reside within the barrack accommodation of GRSE Main Unit  have been placed under quarantine and their samples have been immediately sent for testing," the defence PSU 'mini ratna' unit said.

Personnel found Covid positive have already been shifted  for  treatment at state medical facilities designated for treatment of Covid-19, as per extant norms, it stated .

"The state administration has been highly supportive in providing prompt hospitalisation facility to these Paramilitary personnel and also in sanitising their barracks," said the statement.

GRSEL has been under lockdown since Mar 23 last in full compliance with Centre and state government directives and no production activity is happening since then at the Shipyard.

Only emergency services including security, safety, medical, water, electricity etc. are being  kept operational in order to protect the vital assets of the Shipyard.

"All actions as per established practises and protocols is being undertaken by the Shipyard to tide over this pandemic and crisis at this hour, GRSEL informed.
