New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested seven people in a case linked to an investigation into the death of Sridhar Das in alleged post-poll violence in West Bengal.

CBI had registered a case in compliance with orders of the Calcutta High Court, pertaining to violence after the West Bengal assembly polls and took over the probe of a case earlier registered on June 25 last year at Dinhata, Coochbehar (West Bengal) Police Station, the agency said in a statement here.

It was alleged that on May 4, 2021, at about 2:00 pm, Sridhar Das was allegedly beaten with a stick and iron rods by an unknown accused.

It was further alleged that when his wife came to rescue him, she was also mercilessly beaten by the accused.

After the incident, Das was admitted to Dinhata Hospital and later shifted to other hospitals in Cooch Behar, where he died during treatment.

During the investigation, CBI identified, traced, and arrested seven accused from Cooch Behar, Jaipur, and Kolkata, who were allegedly involved in Das's murder, it stated.

Searches were conducted at around eight locations in Cooch Behar, which led to the recovery of incriminating documents and articles.

The accused were produced before the Court and remanded to police custody.
