Malappuram/UNI: A 17-year-old boy, who had approached the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) here expressing his deep desire to live like a woman for the rest of his life, has been handed over to a transgender social activist for his care and protection for one month.

The boy, who complained of harassment and pressure from home after he shared his desire openly with them, said he wanted to be in a safer place and let him live as he wanted.

The boy’s aged parents and only sister opposed the move and has been hoping to transform the boy against his will and pleasure of living like a woman, he informed the committee.

Acting on the boy’s desire and considering his best interest, the CWC had issued its interim order on Friday, entrusting the custody of the boy to a transgender social activist in nearby Perintalmanna for giving care and protection for  a month and produce him before the committee for review after 30 days.

Based on Sec. 52 of Juvenile Justice Act, the CWC found the fit person in the transgender social activist, who has a house and earn a living.

The boy’s sister made a complaint to the police after he left home few days ago.

The boy stayed in a relative’s house in nearby Calicut for few days before he came back and lived with another transgender in Perintalmanna.

It was under the direction of  Perintalmanna Circle Inspector, he was brought before the Child Welfare Committee.

And, as detailed by family before the committee, the father of the boy also had feminism but lead a normal life as a man.

It was this, that gave hope to the family, particularly his sister, that the boy could be transformed and made to live as a man, sources said.

The interim order said the family was allowed to meet the boy in a week at a comfortable time of the latter, the sources added.
