'BJP will struggle to cross double digits in West Bengal': Prashant Kishor's poll prophecy

Kolkata/IBNS: Political strategist Prashant Kishor, who is looking after the campaigns of the Trinamool Congress for the upcoming West Bengal polls, on Monday claimed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would struggle to cross double digits, suggesting a clear victory for Mamata Banerjee.

Kishor tweeted, "For all the hype AMPLIFIED by a section of supportive media, in reality BJP will struggle to CROSS DOUBLE DIGITS in West Bengal. PS: Please save this tweet and if BJP does any better I must quit this space!"

Kishor's comment came a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is spearheading the BJP's campaign in the poll-bound state, led a massive roadshow in Bolpur, though the Trinamool claimed people were brought from the neighbouring state Jharkhand.

Taking a dig at Kishor's claim, BJP national secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya taking no name tweeted, "The kind of BJP's tsunami is going on in West Bengal, India will lose one political strategist after the (BJP) government is formed."

The BJP, which has ventured into parts of India beyond the Hindi heartland, is seeking to keep its strong footprint in the eastern region by wresting power in one of the largest states, West Bengal.

The saffron party's hunt for power in West Bengal went aggressive after it had won 18 of 42 seats in the last parliamentary elections held in 2019 summer.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool, which is trying to regain the lost political ground, dialled Kishor's Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) post Lok Sabha poll debacle to return to power for the third consecutive term.

Meanwhile, the Trinamool faced a massive setback last week by losing Banerjee's former close-aide Suvendu Adhikari and a few others, who have joined the BJP in presence of Shah.

The elections to 294 assembly seats, which would be primarily fought between the Trinamool and BJP, are scheduled to be held in April-May next year.
