BJP sold its product well, we couldn't: Congress' Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury

New Delhi, June 24 (IBNS): Taking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his BJP government in the parliament, Congress' Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Monday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the General Elections because it could "sell its product well".

"The BJP could sell its product well which it should also but we couldn't. We couldn't reach out to people so we lost," Chowdhury, an MP from West Bengal's Berhampore constituency, said.

Chowdhury highlighted a number of developmental works undertaken by the Congress party during its regime since Independence.

On the slowing down of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in the last quarter, the Congress leader attacked the BJP government saying, "As per modern method of calculation, the GDP was over 8 during UPA regime but fell to 7 during NDA rule."

He also reminded the BJP over the central government's report claiming the unemployment under the present rule is at its highest in more than four-decade time.

Making his statement in presence of the Prime Minister, Chowdhury said the BJP government is "compliment-addictive". "The BJP government is addicted to earning compliments by distorting facts."

"The BJP people do not address people's issues because they are sure of their win with the help of Modi. But we will speak for people despite the lower number of seats in the parliament," Chowdhury said.

After the poll debacle, Chowdhury has been appointed by the Congress as its leader of the Lok Sabha, replacing Mallikarjun Kharge.

The Congress presently has only 52 members in the Lok Sabha, three less than the figure required to get the status of Opposition party.
