BJP MP Sadhvi Pragya courts controversy on her maiden appearance in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Jun 17 (UNI) First timer BJP Member Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur courted controversy on her first day in Parliament as her mandatory oath taking occasion was marred by vociferous protest from the Opposition Congress members.

The row was kicked off on Monday as she started reading out her name and the Congress members said she was not following the rule book.

Even after Pro-tem Speaker Virendra Kumar intervened that whatever mentioned in her papers available with the Lok Sabha Secretariat, will go on record, the Congress members raised slogans 'obey the rule'.

Sadhvi, who defeated Congress stalwart Digvijaya Singh, told the agitating Congress members, ''Ishwar ki shapath toh lene do (At least let me take oath in the name of God) ''.

However, the Congress members remained defiant. Pragya Thakur is out on bail in Malegaon blasts case of 2008.

Taking the oath, Pragya Thakur concluded raising slogan 'Bharat mata ki jai', which too was resisted by the Congress members.

The Sadhvi has been amid controversy over one issue or the other and during the election campaign her remarks on Nathuram Godse had also fetched strong rebuke from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
