BJP issues list of 16 candidates for RS polls; fields Sitharaman from Karnataka, Piyush Goyal from Maharashtra

New Delhi: BJP Sunday released the list of 16 candidates for elections to 57 Rajya Sabha seats slated to be held on June 10.

The party has fielded Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman from Karnataka and Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal from Maharashtra.

The Rajya Sabha seats going to polls are spread across 15 states and Union territories (UTs), including Haryana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, among others.

Of the 16 seats, six are from Uttar Pradesh, where BJP has fielded two women candidates -- Darshana Singh and Sangeeta Yadav.

Today, the party announced the names of two candidates from Bihar, Maharashtra, and Karnataka, and one each from Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.

The complete list of candidates issued by the BJP for the RS polls is: Madhya Pradesh- Kavita Patidar; Karnataka -Nirmala Sitharaman, Jaggesh; Maharashtra -Piyush Goyal, Anil Sukhdevrao Bonde; Rajasthan - Ghanshyam Tiwari; Uttar Pradesh- Laxmikant Vajpayee, Radhamohan Aggarwal, Surendra Singh Nagar, Baburam Nishad, Darshana Singh, Sangeeta Yadav; Uttarakhand - Kalpana Saini; Bihar- Satish Chandra Dubey, Shambhu Sharan Patel; Haryana- Krishan Lal Panwar.

The name of the BJP General Secretary, who was a Rajya Sabha member from Haryana, was seen missing from the first list of candidates.
