Kolkata, June 6 (IBNS): The BJP today furnished a Kolkata Municipal Corporation-issued birth certificate of its new member, Beder Meye Josna star Anju Ghosh, in a bid to end confusion on her nationality.

The Bangladesh-born actor came into the limelight after starring in the 1989 Bangladeshi blockbuster Beder Meye Josna. It was remade in West Bengal in 1991, which also became a huge hit.

Anju Ghosh, who joined the BJP on Wednesday, now has an Indian passport and voter card.

The Trinamool Congress took a swipe at the BJP over signing up the actor.

"Soon from Bhartiya Janata to Bangladeshi Janata Party. Yeh toh right choice, @DilipGhoshBJP ji. Bangladeshi actress joins @BJP4India. Wow. Truly international party," Trinamool Congress Diptansu Chaudhury tweeted.

Media reports said BJP president Amit Shah had her citizenship double checked before allowing her to join the party.
