BJP corporator Jayshree Kulkarni elected as AMC's Standing Committee Chairman

Aurangabad, Jun 4 (UNI) The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) on Tuesday elected the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) woman Corporator Jayshree Kulkarni as the Chairman for a one-year tenure of the 16-member Standing Committee.

The election of a woman Corporator as the Chairman of the Standing Committee has happened for the first time in the history of the AMC.

Kulkarni is the Corporator of the Jawahar Colony ward and won the election by securing 11 votes whereas the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen(AIMIM)'s nominee Naser Siddiqui got 4 votes.

Prior to polls, BJP member Raju Shinde filed his nomination besides Corporator Kulkarni. However, following persuasion by senior party leaders, contestant Shinde withdrew his nomination today.

The poll process began at 1000 hours in the presence of the District Collector Uday Chaudhari, who acted as the Returning Officer.

Kulkarni succeeded ally Shiv Sena's Raju Vaidhya, who previously held the post.

The 16-member Standing Committee comprises altogether 9 members of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, 2 members of the Sahar Vikas Aghadhi, 4 AIMIM members and lone Congress member.

The Congress member abstained from voting.
