New Delhi/IBNS: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentarian Gautam Gambhir on Friday slammed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over the Covid-19 situation in the national capital asking the residents of the union territory to be "beware".

Gambhir in a tweet accused Kejriwal, who according to him has failed in handling the crisis, of playing a blame game.

The BJP Lok Sabha MP tweeted, "BEWARE DELHI! Ad campaigns have failed! Centre, Neighbouring States, Hospitals, Testing, Apps have been blamed! Next SC will be blamed. Step out only if needed because CM will not take responsibility!"

Supreme Court pulls up Delhi

The Supreme Court on Friday pulled up the Delhi government over the "horrendous, horrific and pathetic" Covid-19 situation in the national capital.

Slamming the Delhi government for its kind of handling of infected patients, the Supreme Court said as quoted by NDTV, "COVID-19 patients are treated worse than animals. In one case, a body was found in the garbage. Patients are dying and nobody is there to even attend to them."

It added, "The situation in Delhi is horrendous, horrific and pathetic. (There is a) very sorry state of affairs in its hospitals that aren't giving due care and concern to the bodies. Patients' families aren't even informed about deaths. Families haven't been able to attend the last rites too in some cases."

The top court has also asked the Delhi government to explain the lowering of the number of testing at a time Chennai and Mumbai have increased the daily testing from 16,000 to 17,000.

The union territory of Delhi, one of the worst-hit cities, has so far reported 34,687 positive Covid cases.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said the virus tally in the national capital may touch 5.5 lakh by the end of July.
