Bengaluru/IBNS: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday carried out search operations at 43 locations in Bengaluru city, including four offices of Popular Front of India (PFI)'s political outfit- Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), in connection with its ongoing probe into the Bengaluru riots that took place on Aug 11 at multiple locations under DJ Halli and KG Halli police stations limits in the Karnataka capital, officials said.

The development has come two days after former Bengaluru mayor R. Sampath Raj was arrested by the sleuths of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) in a case related to the communal violence in the city.

"The cases pertain to large scale rioting armed with lethal weapons causing injuries to police personnel, destruction of public and private properties including DJ Halli and KG Halli police stations buildings, and public and private vehicles," NIA said in a statement.

"The riot led to fear and panic in the nearby areas and was intended to cause terror in the society," the national counter-terrorist task force added.

According to the central agency, so far, 124 accused have been nabbed in DJ Halli PS case while 169 more have been arrested in KG Halli PS case.

"During the searches, incriminating materials relating to SDPI/PFI as well as certain instruments for attacks like sword, knife, iron rods etc were seized," the NIA statement read.

NIA officials said that further investigation was going on in both the cases registered in DJ Halli and KG Halli police stations.
