Bengal: Will try to ensure that no Trinamool leader comes to BJP, says Asansol MP Babul Supriyo

However, Supriyo said the decision taken by the central leadership would be of top priority.

In a long post on Facebook, Supriyo, a two-time MP, said, "I write this because some elements are trying to spread the rumours that I have had under-the-table dealings with the TMC leaders of Asansol & now they are doing 'Things' to jump into BJP !!

"Let me tell you very clearly that I do not have the mentality to do such covert deals betraying the trust of my BJP colleagues with whom we fought the battle to defeat & eradicate TMC from Asansol/Bengal!!"

He added, "What my Top Bosses decide is a different thing but I will try my very best with all my might & honesty to ensure that NO TMC leader who tormented, tortured (both Physically & Mentally) my grass root level BJP colleagues in Asansol, don't get an entry in BJP!!

"We have the support of the people of Asansol with us in my efforts to clean up Asansol in every manner possible & the recent crack down on the Coal/Sand Mafias of the region prove that I had really meant to do it with all my heart in my endeavour to do justice to Asansol & give the youth there a clean peaceful life which we will make possible once we form our government in 2021.. Hope this will put all rumours to rest .."

Supriyo's reaction came after Tiwari, who is still an MLA from Pandaveswar, dramatically resigned from the primary membership of the Trinamool within an hour after stepping down from the chairman's post of the board of administrators in Asansol Municipal Corporation on Thursday.

Tiwari, who was supposed to meet West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee on Friday over his issues with the party, said, "I had thought of meeting Mamata Banerjee tomorrow and seeking his direction. But the way my office has been attacked after resigning from the chairman's post under top leadership's approval, I have decided to sever all ties with the Trinamool Congress."

Tiwari resigned days after he had accused the state government, run by his own party, of blocking central projects for political reasons.

Supriyo, who had won the Asansol seat for the second time in 2019 beating Trinamool's Moon Moon Sen, had then praised Tiwari for standing up to his own party.

He had tweeted, "When I said the same & repeated & repeated as to how Asansol has been deprived by Mamata Banerjee, it always sounded like a Political accusation. While we remain fierce political rivals, I am happy Mayor Jitendra Tiwari ji could ultimately garner the courage to spell out the truth."

With barely a few months left for the high-octane 2021 assembly polls, the Trinamool is rattled by the dissents and resignations as it dealt three blows in two days from Thursday.

After Suvendu Adhikari and Jitendra Tiwari, Barrackpore MLA Silbhadra Datta quit the ruling party on Friday when Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah will visit the state.
