Bengal school recruitment scam: Calcutta HC orders CRPF to take over security of SSC building
Kolkata/IBNS: In a midnight hearing, the Calcutta High Court has directed the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to take over the security of the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) building in Kolkata by 12:30 AM so that none can tamper or destroy any evidence in connection with the alleged government-aided school recruitment scam.
The court also said no person, not even any government official or staff, can enter the SSC building until 1 PM on Thursday.
The single bench of Calcutta HC led by Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay ordered the SSC officials to submit all CCTV footage of the SSC building before 12 pm on Thursday to know who visited the building/office since the HC judgement was pronounced.
The CRPF will take care of the building's security until the next hearing is scheduled at 1 PM on Thursday.
This comes after West Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee was on Wednesday quizzed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for 3.5 hours in connection with the alleged recruitment scam.
He appeared before the CBI at Kolkata's Nizam Palace at 5.45 PM and left the same after 9.30 PM on Wednesday.
After leaving the CBI office, his convoy drove to his party office in Behala.
Earlier in the day, the division bench of the Calcutta High court did not pass any order on the single bench directive to the minister to depose before the federal agency by 6 PM in the alleged recruitment scam in the government-aided schools across the state.
Former education minister Chatterjee ( now IT and Industries minister) had approached the division bench of Justice Harish Tandon.
The division bench earlier in the day said the matter (case) was not filed properly by the applicant (Partha Chatterjee) and asked him to appear before the CBI by 6 pm as per the single bench order.
