Bengal: Mamata Banerjee to hold rally in Suvendu Adhikari's bastion today
Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is facing heat from the disgruntled leaders over the past few weeks, will on Monday hold a rally in the Midnapore district, which is the bastion of rebel Trinamool Congress leader Suvendu Adhikari.
The rally is likely to be skipped not only by Suvendu but also his father Sisir Adhikari and brother Dibyendu Adhikari, who are the sitting Trinamool MPs.
In absence of the Adhikari family members, all eyes will be on what message Banerjee will be giving from Midnapore.
The Trinamool supremo last week sent a strong message asking the party leaders, who are allegedly in touch with the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to quit.
Suvendu, who was the architect of the 2007 Nandigram land movement which led the Trinamool to oust the Left Front government, has already quit as the West Bengal Minister following his numerous "independent" rallies.
Suvendu's solo posters have also been erected in various districts of the state by his followers, fuelling speculations over his political position.
Adding more trouble to the Trinamool top brass with barely a few months left for the next assembly elections, another heavyweight party leader and West Bengal Minister, Rajib Banerjee, turned rebel against the leadership on Saturday, followed by his solo posters in north Kolkata.
Rajib, who has been another trusted lieutenant of Mamata Banerjee, took a veiled attack on the top brass saying, "People who speak against wrong things are sidelined. I am one of them."
Interestingly, Rajib was one of the leaders who boasted on Mamata Banerjee's leadership in face of Suvendu's rebellion barely a week ago.
Amid the infighting of Trinamool, Mamata Banerjee on Saturday told her party workers reportedly, "If one leader quits, I will groom one lakh leaders."
