Bengal court sentences Bhopal psycho killer Udayan Das to life for killing parents, live-in partner and burying their bodies

Udayan Das, who is in his mid-30's, was arrested on February 2 in 2017 for killing his 28-year-old live-in partner from West Bengal's Bankura, Akansha Sharma, and burying her body under concrete at his residence in Saket Nahgar area in Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal.

Saying that she was going to join UNICEF project in the US, senior bank official's daughter Akansha Sharma reportedly left her home at Rabindra Sarani area in Bankura on June 23 in 2016 with a 'fake' UNICEF offer letter sent by her Facebook friend Udayan Das. 

According to reports, Akansha went to Bhopal to Udayan and informed the family via Whatsapp that she had reached the US.

Anaksha was staying in Udayan's residence in Bhopal and she was murdered by the man on July 15, 2016 during an argument.

After killing her, Udayan reportedly buried her body under concrete at the Saket Nagar home.

The man kept Akansha's Whatsapp and Facebook accounts active and he used to chat and post updates from the profiles to pretend that the woman was alive, and in October that year, he visited Anaksha's place in Bankura and stayed there overnight.

Later, on December 5, 2016, family members of Akansha lodged a missing complaint with the Bankura Sadar Police Station as they could not make contact with her.

After being informed by the local police that Akansha's mobile was active in Bhopal's Saket Nagar, her father and brother visited the location, but could not track either Akansha or Udayan.

On January 5 in 2017, Akansha's family lodged another complaint at Bankura Sadar PS, accusing Udayan Das of abducting their daughter.

A team of Bankura Police reached Saket Nagar on February 1, recovered the mortal remains of Akansha Sharma after removing a concrete structure inside the home and arrested Udayan Das on February 2 midnight.

During interrogation, Udayan confessed that he had killed his father Birendra Kumar Das and mother Indrani Das in 2010 over a dispute and put their bodies into the grave in the same style under the lawn of their Raipur house in Chattishgarh.

Later on February 5, his parents' remains were recovered from the house's lawn in Raipur's Netaji Nagar area.

Bankura Police had submitted a charge-sheet in the case within three months and after a trial of more than three years, a Bankura court on Tuesday (Aug 26) found Udayan Das guilty under the charges of committing murders (IPC section 302) and causing disappearance of evidence of offences (IPC section 201).

Bankura court's Public Prosecutor Arun Kumar Chatterjee said that Udayan Das had been sentenced to life and fined Rs 20,000 for murder and another two years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000 for tampering evidence.

Meanwhile, Udayan and his counsel said that they will move to the higher court against the verdict.
