New Delhi, June 21 (IBNS): As post poll result violence continued to roil West Bengal in a turf war between the ruling TMC and the rising BJP, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed his grief over the deaths of two persons in Bhatpara near Kolkata in alleged "police firing".

A three-member BJP team of MPs would visit the area on Saturday.

.According to a party statement, BJP MPs S S Ahluwalia, Satpal Singh and B D Ram will visit the place and submit their report on the situation in the ground zero.

"BJP National President Shri @AmitShah has expressed deep grief at the death of two people in Police firing in Bhatpara, West Bengal and constituted a 3-member committee. The committee will visit the place of this incident and submit its report to him," BJP tweeted.

Meanwhile, demanding restoration of peace in the area, BJP supporters, led by party MP Arjun Singh, staged demonstration in front of the  Barrackpore Police Commissionerate Office on Friday.

The police had to fire tear gas shells after crude bombs were lobbed and gunshots were fired. Some reports said the police also had opened fire.

The incident occurred just before the West Bengal police chief was about to inaugurate a new building of the local police station in North 24 Parganas.

Following the incident, the state police chief, the chief secretary and other top officials are holding an emergency meeting on the order of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

16 people have been arrested in connection to the clashes so far, media reports said.

Expressing concern, Governor K N Tripathi was quoted as saying by the media, "Not only in Bhatpara but in the entire state, there is a need to keep peace."

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reportedly directed police officials to restore normalcy in the areas within 72 hours.
