Barring parts of south Kashmir, 2G mobile internet restored

Srinagar/UNI: Barring twin south Kashmir districts of Pulwama and Shopian, low speed mobile internet services of all cellular companies were restored after remaining suspended for six days due to security reason in the valley, an official said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, cellular service was restored on Monday midnight in Puwama and Shopain, which were the only two districts in the valley where the service was suspended. Cellular service was restored elsewhere in the valley on Friday night.

Cellular and mobile internet services were suspended soon after top Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Riyaz Naikoo and three other militants were killed in two separate encounters in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Wednesday.

The official said that 2G mobile internet services of all cellular companies, including BSNL, were restored on Monday midnight after remained suspended since Wednesday morning as a precautionary measure in the valley. "But, the mobile internet service remained suspended in Pulwama and Shopian as a precautionary measure", they said, adding cellular service has been restored in the twin south Kashmir districts.
