Assembly polls: Counting begins in Delhi

| | Feb 10, 2015, at 02:11 pm
New Delhi , Feb 10 (IBNS): Counting is currently underway in Delhi on Tuesday where voting occurred on Saturday to elect a new Assembly in the national capital.

More than 60 percent people had exercised their franchise on Saturday as Delhi is witnessing a battle between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to come to power.

As per early trends at 8:38 am, the AAP is leading in 11 seats, BJP is ahead in 9 seats while the Congress and others are leading in 2 and 1 seats respectively.

AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal tweeted: "All the very best Delhiites. Do pray. Prayers are v powerful."

Congress leader Ajay Maken told reporters: "Let's just wait for the results to come out."

At total of 673 candidates are in the fray for the Delhi Assembly elections where polling is being held at 12,177 polling stations.

The polling is majorly seen as a contest between AAP’s Arvind Kejirwal’s claims versus Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s charismatic leadership following his landslide victory in the Lok Sabha polls last year.
