Assam: Teacher arrested for raping student in Cachar

Silchar/UNI: A man was arrested by police at Brahmangram village of Kalain circle in Cachar district for allegedly raping a girl.

The man Kaushik Nath (50) is a teacher at Kalain Higher Secondary School.

An FIR was lodged with police by the girl's father against the teacher Kaushik Nath.

According to the FIR, the girl, who took private tuition from Kaushik, was raped by him at his home on Monday.

Sources said the girl told about the incident to local residents after which a large number of people gathered near Kaushik's house, called him outside the house and beat him.

The matter was later informed to the police. A team of cops reached the spot and arrested Kaushik.

The girl, who is a class-X student at Kalain Higher Secondary School, was sent to a rehabilitation centre in Silchar.

The arrested teacher has been sent to jail after police produced him before a Silchar court on Tuesday.
