Assam: Polling parties leave for booths ahead of second phase of Lok Sabha election

Guwahati, Apr 16 (IBNS): The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday dispatched some polling parties to their respective polling booths and beefed up security in the areas of five Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam which will go to election in the second phase on Apr 18.

Elections will be held in five Lok Sabha seats in Assam – Karimganj, Silchar, Autonomous District, Nowgong and Mangaldoi in the second phase.

A total of 50 candidates including three women and 19 Independents are in the fray for the five parliamentary constituencies in Assam and 8,992 polling stations have been set up for smooth conduct of elections.

In the second phase polls, a total of 68,36,496 voters, with 35,21,244 males, 33,15,071 females and 181 voters in Third Gender category will vote from five Lok Sabha seats to elect their representative.

Voting for the first phase poll for five Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam was held on Apr 11 and 78.27 percent voter turnout was recorded and it was 0.48 per cent decreased compared to the 2014 General Election.
