Assam: Police recover huge cache of arms-ammunition

Guwahati/IBNS: Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, Assam police have recovered a large number of arms, ammunition in Assam’s Udalguri district.

According to the reports, police recovered the arms, ammunition and explosives from different locations of the district on Thursday night.

Following a tip-off, Guwahati city police and Udalguri district police had jointly launched search operations at multiple locations of Udalguri district on Thursday night and recovered the arms and ammunition.

The police team had recovered five AK-56 rifles, two AK-47 rifles, two M-16 rifles, one airgun, seven 9 mm pistols, 23 numbers of magazines, five numbers of 36 hand grenades, five HE bombs, seven numbers of 40mm grenades, 166 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 300 rounds of .303 ammunition, 79 rounds of  9mm ammunition, 200 numbers of detonator caps, 20 numbers of strier spring and 20 kg explosives.

A top police official said that the recovered arms, ammunition were kept hidden underground.

The police official also said that the recovered arms, ammunition and explosives are suspected to be belonging to NDFB.

He further said that, during the operation no person was arrested.
