Guwahati, Aug 18 (IBNS): In a major embarrassment to the Assam government, the family members of a pregnant woman have been forced to carry her in a horse cart and boat to reach hospital in Assam’s Barpeta district.

The incident took place at Alopati Char area in Barpeta district, where a pregnant woman was carried in a horse cart and boat by her family members to reach hospital due to lack of ambulance service and proper road connectivity.

According to the reports, when the woman – a resident of Changbandha village felt severe labour pain, the family members managed a horse cart to carry her to the Nagarbera Block Primary Health Centre due to lack of ambulance service and proper road connectivity.

The government-run health centre is located far away from Alopati Char area.

After travelling about 3 hours in the horse cart, the family members of the woman managed a country made boat to carry her to reach the hospital.

They carried her firstly to Alopati public health centre, where no doctor was available and forced to carry her to the Nagarbera Block Primary Health centre.

The family members of the woman alleged that, there is no ambulance service available in the area due to dilapidated condition of roads.

“We are coming from Changbandha. Firstly we went to Alopati public health centre. She is pregnant. We have been forced to carry her in a horse cart and will need to cross the river,” a family member said.
