Assam CM distributes land pattas and allotment certificates at Majuli
Guwahati/IBNS: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday led his government in starting the second phase of distribution of land pattas and land allotment certificates to indigenous landless people of the State when he allotted land pattas to over three thousand people at a function held at Majuli college playground in Majuli district.
With this allotment which the state government carried out throughout the State, more than one lakh indigenous people secured their rights on their lands. The Chief Minister on the occasion announced that his government would relentlessly pursue to fulfil all the demands of Assam Accord.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal termed the development as the red letter day for the people of Assam as their rights on land got manifested with the government fulfilling their demands by giving them land pattas.
He also attributed it to the fulfilment of one of the demands of Assam Agitation and observed that the step would safeguard jati, mati and bheti of the indigenous people.
Stating that existence of people has no meaning unless they have rights on their land, Sonowal said immediately after coming to power in 2016 his government decided to provide land pattas to landless indigenous people of the State.
He also said that with this allotment which the state government carried out throughout the state today, more than one lakh people secured their rights on their lands.
He, however, announced that his government would relentlessly pursue to fulfil all the demands of Assam Accord.
Chief Minister Sonowal also said that his government is also committed to fulfil Clause VI of the Assam Accord and publication of a flawless NRC in the State. Sonowal said that after coming to power, he himself went to see the progress of fencing works along Indo-Bangla border and with the help of the Central government concrete and pragmatic steps were taken to seal the border.
He further said that as a mark of tribute to the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs of the Assam Agitation, the family members of the martyrs of the agitation were provided financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 5 lakh each and those who sustained injuries were given Rs. 2 lakh each.
His government took steps to make the sattra lands free from encroachment. Moreover giving a snapshot of the commitments of his government, Sonowal said that corpus funds to 33 sahitya sabhas were announced besides providing financial assistance to sattras and namghars to help them to continue their works to enrich the socio-cultural life of the people of Assam.
It may be noted that in Majuli altogether 8489 land pattas were given to indigenous landless families by the present State government. Sonowal also announced that in the coming two months another five thousand beneficiaries will be given land pattas.
Satradhikar of Uttar Kamalabari Sattra Janardan Devagoswsmi, Chief Executive Member of Deuri Autonomous Council Madhav Deuri, Chairman DNP Ltd. Rupam Goswami, Deputy Commissioner of Majuli Bikram Kairi also spoke in the programme which was organised by Revenue and Disaster Management Department in association with District administration Majuli.
